Question 2002 expedition a/c pressures

Just troubleshooting my a/c and was wondering if anyone has input on this.

My a/c pressures are about 45 and 175 which might be okay, but this is only when the rear a/c is on. When just the front is on the pressures drop to maybe 25 and 155.

I don't understand this. Is this correct and if so, should I charge the a/c with only the front on, or with both on?

I guess I don't understand why the pressure would be different.

thanks

what is the ambient temperature? front and rear should be on full max and rpm at 1500.
if you are charging, the correct way to do it is by weight (see the hood for the amount) both front and rear should be on since they are using the same compressor (separate evaporators) You use the ac manifold gauge to verify both high and low pressures if they are in the allowable range.

yes thanks, I do realize the correct way to charge it, but trying to 'check' it. can you explain why the pressures are so different with only the front on? just doesn't make sense to me as only one compressor, I would think the pressures should remain the same regardless of the back being on.

That pressure is too low, the system needs to be charged. When you charge it turn both A/C units on to Max A/C with the blowers on high.

thanks! do you have any idea what the pressures should be? I know it varies with outside temps but say on an 80 degree day? I know we are suppose to evacuate the system and charge by weight, but I am not doing that so...

thanks again

Around 30 on the low side and 225 on the high side.

ideally it should be the same but since you have different system at the front and back it might cause difference in the readings if one of them is not functioning well. Orifice tube in front, expansion valve at the rear. it's also possible that it's low that's why it's showing this behavior.
