Pulling Engine -- What else?

Hey ya'll...

I have a '92 F350 that needed the oil-cooler rings replaced. After getting it out I realized there was A) no reliable way to get it back in with the gaskets in place and B) had oil coming from the pan as well... so... after reading through a bunch of info here, I decided to pull the engine out and do the job correctly. I'm currently about halfway through the tear-down.

My question is, what else should I replace/fix/check while the engine is out?

I'm currently thinking:
- Oil Pan Gasket
- Valve Cover Gaskets
- ???

If it was me I'd do a full gasket set, little bit more $ but peace of mind is nice. CDR would be good to replace if you never have, at the very least clean it out with gas. Check the torque on all your rocker arms, they occasionally work loose on these engines. Other than that it's all personal preference. Now would be a great time to switch to electric fuel pump and ditch the mechanical while it's easy to get to.

Put in new motor mounts too. I'd do the HG's too, plus upgrade to studs if you have a turbo. While you got the heads off, you could have them and the springs, valves, etc tested.

PlumCrazy7 - do you have a link for a "full gasket set" handy? I've just been looking at individual stuff. Not sure what the full set encompasses.

genscripter - It's an N/A motor, but I'll look into the motor mounts. It has a "shudder" when I turn it off that I've heard could be attributed to the mounts. I was trying to avoid having to ship anything anywhere for testing, etc... would most engine shops be able to check the springs and such?

Great suggestions guys. This is my first rebuild, so thank you!

Northern auto appears to be the best deal for bearing or seal kits.

I would look into crank/rod bearings while you have it apart. At least take a look at one or two; most older motors seem to have some wear in that department.

A set of new bearings isn't particularly expensive, either, if you can just drop them in, and don't need any machine work.

The only thing I'll also say is... don't be too picky. Don't get 'stuck' trying for perfect, just because you have something you aren't sure about - if it ran before, it'll run again.

Also, you /will/ see cracks in the bottom of the head, in the precups. Don't let it scare you.

I bought this kit when I did pretty much everything on my 7.3:

Amazon Amazon

It had almost everything. It had a valley pan too.
