my 89 overheating?

I have an 89 2.9L v-6 4x4. I think it is overheating. I can drive to work and then in the afternoon drive home just fine, the temp gauge stays normal. get home turn off the truck go inside come out 10-15 mins. later and it wont run. it will start and run for 4-5 seconds and then die. the more times you try it the less time it runs. if I let it sit for 2-3 hours and try again it starts just fine and runs normal. the temp gauge never goes above normal. also I took off the radiator cap and there was no pressure built up and it was not overly hot. does anybody have any ideas? something i can try? thanks

Ford has this wonderful thing called a TFI module on it's distributor....when this gets old, worn, and hot, your truck will do what it is doing......easeiest route....replace the distributor. 2.9's don't like high temps....do it now before you REALLY do overheat, and crack a head......if that happens....toss the engine and buy another used one, or swap to a 4.0 or 5.0

I check into this more and a guy told me to put some kind of spacer behind the TFI module. He said his ranger ran like a champ after he did this. thanks
