Heater Hose routing

Found this picture while researching water leaking down firewall. This is a picture from @Nija32.

There's what looks like heater hose coming from behind my engine. Right now it has a large bolt in it. When I got my truck, the hoses going/coming from the heater core both went to the front of the engine (block/waterpump.)

But looking at this picture, it appears the hose with the valve runs from the front engine port to the back of the engine and then back to the valve.

Anyone help on this routing? Mines a '79 F250 with the 460. Ext cab, 2wd, camper.

Look at that pic again, another red hose is right behind the w.p. on the top of the motor.

That one on my engine go straight to the heater valve. So my question is, in the picture where is it going and then where's it coming from again?

are there heater hose attachment points at the back of the engine that I should be tying into?

This is a picture from Coneynew, it happens to show the general area where I have a hose that's plugged (see red circle.) The picture is from an 85 F350 with a 460 though. So this may not be relevant to my '79.
The blue square and hose from it isn't present currently on my vehicle.

My 76 had a clip on the choke coil and the heater hose layed in the clip to help warm the choke coil. I suspect that is what is going on in that pic.

Only 1973/79 F100/350's & 1978/79 Bronco's with factory installed integral A/C have the vacuum controlled heater water valve (D4AZ-18495-A [replaced D1AZ-18495-A] / Motorcraft YG-136).

No factory A/C, no heater water valve.

My '73 F100 Ranger was routed just like that, but it wasn't connected or clipped into anything in the back of the engine bay. I'm not sure why it is such a long routing of the hose. Mine basically routed to the back, down over the valve cover, then back toward the front to the heater... just like the red hose in the original pic. There may be some engineering phenomena as to flow, but I would think it could be shortened up and be more directly routed.

Not sure if this helps or not.

I'm thinking my configuration of water pump-to-heater core and heater core-to valve-to block/intake is how it should be.

I'll have to try and figure out what the hose at the back of the intake with a bolt in it is for. Bolt looks to be 3/4".

Engine doesn't have a smog pump on it, I suppose it's possible that the hose plugs a pipe that is attached to the exhaust?

Here's a picture of the "thing" in the back. It looks a lot like the item in post #3.
