2003 E350 15 Pass Rear Axle Codes

Hello,

The rear end in our 2003 E350 recently grenaded and we have decided to fix it as cheaply as possible and sell as the van is in somewhat rough visual shape.

I am trying to source a complete assembly from a salvage yard and am having trouble figuring out the correct part. The axle tag is missing and the code on the door jamb is "34"

I know it has a Dana axle, presumably the Dana 60 (9.75 ring gear)and is a semi floating. Obviously disc brake and SRW. It currently has a 4.10 ratio, but I want to put a 3.55 or 3.73 back in it (I have a friend who works at Ford and can reset the computer like he did when we put in the 4.10)

So, my question is: What is the difference between all these axle codes?

Any ideas how to decipher what axle I have, or need, or how to find the Axle tag code they reference?

Here ya go for finding the axle code. There's a couple of ways but the best is to find the BOM#: Differential Identification | West Coast Differentials

Then, you can find all the part #'s for the ring and gear, bearings, etc:
