Try to help a guy out. A forum member! Have been working with him for a few weeks to fit a truck in his budget. Got the order just right for him and submitted it yesterday at his request, and I did so on a verbal handshake because I didn't want him to risk hitting balance out and not getting his truck. It got picked up today but he wanted to totally change the order adding $10k to the cost. I can't change the order once it's been picked up and I can't stick my neck out there for a second truck. I gotta pay interest on these things, and while I'm okay with 2wd, most folks here in PA want 4x4, so it's highly likely I'll be sitting on this for awhile. Sometimes I read on her a lack of understanding why dealers don't want all business... well this is why. Sticking safe and not going out of your way to help someone doesn't put you at these big risks for little gain.
Sorry, needed to vent. Sorta like when someone here complains about a dealer doing them wrong.
It goes both ways. Ive seen when someone orders, and doesnt pick it up. then the dealer have a vehicle that can be hard to sell....................but then Ive seen what some dealers will do to make a sale too.................
Yes, but it makes taking the high road look rather foolish!
I was in sales for 30 years.
It works both ways. Customers (and salespeople) will lie to you as fast as a politician.
It's why so many salespeople get burnt out so early in life.
You gotta learn to role with it. It's life. It's just the way people are and you can learn to spot them after a while....... Or you think you can.
My recommendation -- Keep on truckin'
People ain't gonna change. Not now, not ever.
Just walk away. And don't change. It's hard enough being yourself, much less trying to be somebody else. Don't change. I've seen it happen to way too many people and it ain't pretty.
Yes, it truly sucks when people don't honor the word any more.
There are more and more of those people out there.
I hope this works out in your favor and Karma bites them down the road.
I take it that you mean the order got picked up for production, not that the customer picked up the truck. It sucks that you'll get stuck with it. I wouldn't order another for him, no way. He said he's on a tight budget and then wants a truck $10k more? He won't buy it either. Be done with him. Some practical minded guy will buy the truck you ordered. He may even tell you how hard it is to find a truck like that. You may be surprised how fast it sells. Good luck.
haha, yeah.. Lightning blue SC 4x2 302a package 2.7EB. I did a search to see how screwed I was, within 300 dealership there were 3 of these (admittedly more than expected)... mine is the most expensive by several thousand, so that's going to suck. When it comes in I will be putting about 110% effort into moving it to stay in managements good graces on this one.

Man that sucks Frantz....there's just no accounting for some folks. Been burned a time or two myself, albeit not in a sales role. Got to where I don't want to stick my neck out for anybody these days.
My salesman screwed up my 2015 F350 CC DRW order and we found out about it once the VIN and Sticker were produced. He left off the Lariat Interior package - which then meant no heated seats (in Minnesota)..
He's 64 years old and lives just a half mile from me in our small town. He told me that I could refuse the truck and that the dealership would order another truck for me. The only hitch was - he'd lose his job...
We ended up taking the truck -
We did not beat them up on the price either. $500 under MSRP is what we paid as I knew they needed to make money too and that they'd be more likely to take good care of me as a customer.
When it came time to order the Raptor, they would do me a favor and only charge me 5k over MSRP instead of 10k! They offered me a GREAT trade-in value of 45k on my spotless 15 (this was fall of 16) with only 10k miles on it.
My 2017 Raptor was ordered from a dealer 25 miles away... 2k over MSRP and 54k for my trade-in.
I won't spend another dime in that local dealership now.

I'm a man of my word and I expect that everyone else is too - if they prove otherwise, I am done with them.
IDK. With a liar by phone and email it's hard to know where truth stops. His biggest hold-back prior to ordering kept being that he had to talk to his wife. She was pushing towards an Escape maybe. Then when he wanted to re-order he said something about overcoming a bad illness and deciding you only live once so go all the way. The thing is, the second truck was CC Red 502a with the 3.5EB... so other than 2wd, really had nothing in common with the other one.... at all. So if it's all true I have a guy that knows how short life can be, but wants to burden his family with another $10k. It took several days to get the wifeys approval, but overnight she say "F(* it, spend all our money honey". So it's possible the whole thing was a bluff to try and justify it as my fault.
I ask for a $500 deposit, but I told him I'd place the order since we were right against balance out and I didn't want him to risk not getting his truck. And that was the corner I cut. Honestly the $500 is just so we have to see someone again. We can't actually keep a deposit if someone backs out of an order, but it makes them come back and demand it in person. Further, the cost of interest on a truck adds up. 6 months at 4% floor plan comes to $820.
I'm good now. I took the afternoon off yesterday and worked on my tractors and garden. Today is rainy and I have some good fleet customers I'm working out some deals with.
