Recommendations on tranny temp kit?
I'm getting ready to pull the pan and change my tranny filter/fluid in the pan. Since I'm going to have the pan off anyway, I thought this would be an ideal time to install a tranny temp gauge and drain plug.
Unfortunately, I hit AutoZone, Napa and Pep Boys...*none* of them had a trans temp kit. They tried to sell me a water temp kit, which would probably work, but the temp ranges on the gauge didn't seem to jive with the trans specific kits.
So...can anyone recommend an inexpensive, dependable tranny temp kit? Ideally brand/part #? I'd love to find one local so I can save shipping charges, but that may not be possible.
Thanks,
Brandon
I also get the B&M drain kit, but I usually MIG the kit into the pan for a couple of reasons.
1. I don't like that nylon washer that comes with it for sealing.
2. Instead of using the drain plug that comes with the kit, I simply thread the temp gage sender unit into the drain kit (same size/pitch of threads between the two.
I also install the drain plug on the side of the pan, close to the bottom so the sender unit is sticking out to the side where it's more protected, rather than straight down.
The sender grounds fine, so there 's no problem with the circuit. I have also used that nylon washer in the past, but then I had to add a thin ground wire from the drain plug/sender to somewhere close by on body or frame.
Personally, I think that a tranny cooler and temp gauge are money well spent !
