I changed the rear brake shows on my 1988 F-150 this afternoon and adjusted them to a slight drag and, no pedal unless I pump them. I tried tightening the shoes up some more and still the same problem. I do not think I got any air into the system as I did not open anything up. I got that RABS system and have seriously considered bypassing that RABS valve and bleeding the entire system. I have had pedal height issues before but a slight adjustment on the rear wheel adjusters usually took care of it. Have any of you out there had similar problems and if so, what was your cure? I appreciate any and all input.
Thanks,
Hey there mantta! Those things are going to drive us all crazy!!
I just had a gut tonight that has it on his Ranger, I have it on my E250. Mine is ok for now, but his was just the opposite of your problem. His brakes (rear) would lock up and to release them, he actually had to release them by opening a bleeder! PITA!
Anyways, you need to replace the RABS Valve and bleed it. Sorry about that..
Talk with you later buddy....
Scooter 29, I hate to dispute your advice but I bled the brakes this morning and the pedal came back to normal, and I had a sucessful road test with it.
Hey there mantta! Glad to here that! Seeing as though you had not opened the system for any purpose, so bleeding the system was the next logical choice, then the RABS Valve if needed. Sorry about the mix-up of wording. I promise not to let it happen again.
Thanks for the update as well, not many get back to us either way! Talk with you later....
