Question electric motor

ok now i was driving yesterday and decided to show my wife an old place i used to wheel
we got there and there was this hil i used to have trouble with in 4 high on my old BII well for the heck of it i decided to point the truck at it and hit the gas was just going to go up a few feet but the darn little thing just climbed all the way up easily
in my previous posts i had mentioned that i could not get this truck to engage in high or low when i pushed the buttons all it did was click
well after i went up that hill i was curious because no two wheel drive could have gone up it
so today i pulled the motor of the TC and sure enouph it was stuck in 4high i was wondering why it was so bad on gas LOL
so i took apart the motor as per http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/tcase.html

and when i put it back to gether i got nothing not even a click in the dash now ????
but i manually put it in 4low and man this thing is a rock crawler
would there be any bad effects to using it this way just locking it in with the CAM on the TC
??? it used to click when i pushed the buttons now it doesnt even do that when i pulled it apart it looked like it had been soaked and sat in water for a long time, and one of the brush springs had completely disinagrated so i tried to use one out of a bic pen maybe that is why it not work LOL???
what is one of the TC motors worth in canada, i really want this little truck crawling
