Damaged evaporator core

I recently made new AC hoses and installed a new compressor and drier. The evaporator core looked great, so I kept it. Then, I proceeded to drill a 1/8" hole right through it trying to mount a new temp sensor.

Reading around, most people don't suggest a repair. The only place I see a new one is well over $300. Does anyone have any suggestions on whether to try to fix? Anyone know of a cheaper interchangeable core? Anyone have one on the shelf?

being aluminum, if you have it out or can get to it, a good fixer should be able to weld up a small hole in good material
