cruising

I know this is the wrong place but I know you guys better and you appreciate this more. I got my 59 F250 together and have been cruising it around. I haven't driven something this fun in a long time. It's great, easy to drive, runs and stops perfect. But oh, those 4.56s. 50-55 is rumbling pretty loud!! I wish I had a set of the ultra rare 19.5s for it.

I had just thought 'we need some pics' and I scrolled down and Scott was asking about the same thing...

Fine F250 4x4. But yes, it needs a set of the 71410s. Besides better road speed, they look right on a truck. Stu

I suppose you might know where there is a set?
I can get 255x85x16 that are about 33", would knock the rpm down a couple hundred. Any conventional tires that get taller also get a lot wider, which I don't want.
The 255s would make cruising rpm at 60 about 2800

All he wanted was the spark plug wire covers and I decided to keep them together with the valve coves and tubes. But thanks for the hook up.
I emailed the contact last night, haven't heard back from him yet.

After doing quite a bit of research I see the 225 19.5s don't gain much height over 235x85x16 and not as tall as 255x85x16. I found some highway 8R19.5 Bridgestones that are a little taller than the 255-16s, but not much. I was thinking they looked a lot taller, like 34-35" tall. Must have been the old 8-19.5s that you can't buy anymore that made them look tall in the pictures. A lot of money for not much gain.

On the subject of old wheels, I have one 17 inch one piece wheel if anybody needs it to fill out a set.

The down side of the 19.5s right now is the lack of reproduction 8-19.5" traction tires. Considering they were used by all the old 4x4 companies, for both Budd and K-H wheel varieties, there has to be a big market for these tires. Old stock Firestones and Coursers are hard to find and of questionable safety in everyday use. I've asked Coker reps to pass on our desire for them to begin reproducing them.

If you have a one piece 17" I'd like to know more about it, and see pictures. I don't think any were made. Stu

Hey, and thanks for letting me ramble on about the 59 here in the older section. It just seems like you guys appreciate stock old trucks more. It doesn't stir up much conversation on the 57-60 segment, they seem more into bagging or how to put a crown vic front end in.

This is a special truck. '59 was the first year that Ford built there own F-250 4x4. I first got interested in these when I was a kid. The fire chief had one of these and lived down the hill and across the road from me. When there was a fire call he would hit the road with the siren on, red spotlight with 'fire' on the lens and the big whip antenna bent way back. I thought, wow I want one of those someday!
