What oil are you using?

Noticed several different oil wts in manual. I live in ky, so climate is hot in summer and cold in the winter, nothing special. I have not done first oil change yet but getting closer. Dealer told me that they put 10w30 blend in my truck when they received it. What brand and wt. are you putting in your 6.7?

I did my first change my self on my 2017 and just put in 10/30 motorcraft diesel power stroke oil. I think it's the same as what was in it. It sounds like you have some choices if you want to change, my climate is Northern CA. So not much different than you.

Ford says the oil must meet spec WSS-M2C171-F1 (regardless of the weight).
interestingly enough i do NOT see Chevron Delo or Shell Rosella T4/T6 on the approved lists of Oils

Rotella & Delo are some of THE BEST diesel engine oils ever produced and they meet or exceed the API CJ-4 spec that Ford calls out (for 10w30).

SHELL ROTELLA® Responds to Ford's Position - STATEMENT

The Delo and Rotella have switched to the CK4 rating. Ford did wear tests and said these oils did not meet their criteria. They must have seen something that was not good in their testing, so i will just stick to what they approve. I personally have run T6 in everything i own in the past and still do. For warranty purposes i will just run the Motorcraft 5w40 so they cant nit pick me if i have an issue. Plus i have 5 oil changes by the dealer so that makes the decision easy.

Im running Lubrication Engineers 5W40 CJ-4. Their CK-4 5W40 was just approved by Ford. I will be using that on my next oil change.

Here is an updated List from Ford.

Did you mean to say 15w40?

I don't see a Motorcraft 5w40 on the list.

I think Ford's Engine Block on the 6.7 is made of different material (CGI) than either Generic Motors or Fiat.

I'd probably listen to what Ford Engineers have to say on the topic.

Then there's the Turbos.......

It may not be out in a CK-4 yet. But the CJ-4 MC 5W40 is still ok to use

Interesting and odd... Ford's 10W-30 and 15W-40 are on the list but not their FS 5W-40. Unless I missed it.

EDIT: replied after the above posts. Makes more sense now, thanks.

I found some Delo 5w-40 CJ-4, so used that when I did my first oil change. Have enough to do one more change.

Seems like most prefer 5w40 over 15w40. My dad tells me all he has has ever used in his diesels is the 15w40. What do you think about using 15w40 over 5w40?

I cannot find approved synthetic (5w40); even Amazon has a 1-2 month backorder on the blue extreme. I figure I'll just run 15w40 oil for now and switch to synthetic when it gets colder. Maybe more will get approved by then or the approved oil won't be so hard to find.

I typically wait for 10K miles before running synthetic anyway.
