I ordered mine from Nichols. They work great. I coordinated the TPMS sensor install with new tires on the trailer, so the install was 'free'.

So I got the tpms part installed and I’m still working on the camera part. But now a weird thing happens when I start the truck with no active trailer. The tpms screen for the trailer pops up for a second and shows no pressure for the trailer tires then goes away. Anyone else have this problem ?

No, I've never had that happen. The system on my F-350 has been spot on for knowing that the trailer is connected or disconnected. Some guys have trucks that aren't as smart and they have to manually disconnect the trailer through the screen.

Yeah that’s the weird thing. It shows no active trailer but it still pops up every now and then.

Bad wire? Check the plugs to make sure they are fully seated and don't have corrosion in them.

Yeah, I've read it fairly common for it to do any number of odd things. Mine acts funky for a few key cycles after disconnecting, it clears up quickly.. I haven't put much worry in to it. It's just a firmware glitch.

Kind of an old thread, but my search for the bigger trailer valve stem brought me to this.

after tinkering w several aftermarket TPMS systems for my 6 tire trailer, I’ve thrown in the towel and have resorted to the OEM monitoring system. I figure the trucks TPMS has been spot on w no delay readings and no non readings, why not let the truck monitor my trailing 6 tires also?

i have the harness and sensor module already. I have no desire to use the lower resolution wired camera, but the TPMS is finally going to get installed... with a slight install twist as follows.....

Instead of wiring the 12 pin up to the bed (I have a 5er) and using Nichols mount, I’m going to take the line to the rear of my truck and mount the TPMS receiving module just under the receiver (hitch). If this works and gets the signal from the sensors, I will then shorten/solder the tether from the connection point just above the spare tire to the lower part of the receiver box channel.

i have had other user reports of 15-20 ft away with zero issues. My thinking of where my module will be mounted, it should be pretty close to this as well as the trucks under channel hitch is only a couple feet away from the front underbelly of the 5er.

Reasoning; I really don’t want another plug to remember to plug-in or out. The 12 pin w that catch latch is also clumbsy with one hand reaching around to the recepticle.

let ya know how my “cheating” method works!

PS; waiting on my Nichols Mfgr .625 fat stems to come in so I can test out my shortcut.

Nichols Manufacturing & Welding Services makes a .625 valve stem that accepts the Ford tpms sensor. nicholsmanufacturingandweldingservices.com. I used them to mount 19.5 rims on F-350

Mounting sensor just below trucks hitch receiver works without any blips or blank outs.
