hi all,
just bought a stock 2000 f-250 7.3 psd, 6-spd, 3.73 gear(i believe), off-road pkg...needed something to tow my toy around and couldn't resist the look of the truck everytime i passed it at the used truck lot. anyway, i've been reading a pile of the postings here and wow! is there a lot to know about these trucks. where i worked, i drove ford f-250/350 often, but never was involved in maintaining them...fleet mechanics took care of that. i was hoping to get some input from you all about some initial concerns...basically what repairs/replacements/additions i should be thinking about right away. it has 111,000 miles on it, but seems to run like a top. haven't noticed any leaks, slaps, smacks, whams, excessive smoke, or parts falling out in my rearview mirror. the truck starts right up and is in great shape from what i can tell, but i'm no mechanic. any suggestions and comments would help me out a bunch. btw, my "toy" is an ih scout II...that should give u all an idea of my mechanical skills...pretty basic, but quite experienced. thanks.
Check this website out and you will see what I am talking about. I would recommend the full powerpack but it is pretty pricey. If you have an automatic, the trans programmer is awesome, but you can also add as you go, don't have to put it all on at once.
Pyro and boost guages, perhaps a tuner, some kind of alternate air-filter set-up. Change the oil and oil-filter REGULARLY, along with the other filters of course, and make sure you keep the coolant additive up to date.
Have the coolant tested if you do not replace it. (or buy test strips)
Also check your intake to the turbo for dust or debris. Use a white cloth to wipe inside the intake hose to the turbo to see if dust has been getting by filter.
