Electrical disconnects before welding

05 f350 6.0 diesel, I am going to do some rust repair, A will be mig welding of replacement rocker panels. I know I need to disconnect the batteries, Is there anything else I should disconnect: FICM ? Injector control module ?.Any imput would be great Thanks

I do TIG. MIG, stick, flux welding often on trucks.


run a ground rod into the ground and use a jumper cable to ground the frame close to your weld areas.


disconnect matteries


disconnect (once the batteries are disconnected), the two main connectors to your computer.


TIG would be a better choice for body panels.

Disconnects before welding

Thanks for the info, I have a tig welder as well and will use it for this project. Great Idea about the grounding rod.
