Summit Radiator

A couple of years ago I decided I had too much money and bought a nice Summit Racing cross flow aluminum radiator. After 1 year it began to leak where the tubes met the tank, just below the return hose. Every time my thermostat opened I'd smell coolant. I tolerated it for a year. That means I had it for two years.

Finally I'd had enough and called Summit. They asked where it was leaking, and issued a refund. Easy as that. Now I have to get my old one back.

My replacement radiator came from Rock Auto, was reasonably cheap $140, plus shipping. Its fit and function have this far been perfect.

Its the shiny one with plastic bits.

A Champion (painted black) has done well for me.

I first replaced the OE radiator with a parts store "brass/copper 3 core extra cooling" radiator. Boy those cores were thin. On a hard pull she would warm up rolling.

The 4 core Champion fit fine and cools well ('78 F250 4 wd/400).

I too was mesmerized by the big all aluminum ones... ended up putting a "plastic" one in my truck (just like in your pic) over a year ago and it's been great. Was cheap, no leaks and the engine runs cooler even in Texas summers with the A/C on.

This is very interesting. I bought this rad. in 2015. After only one year it began to leak where the tubes meet the tank. Summit said they would refund it 100%. They even issued a return label to get the old rad. back so a refund could be issued. But when I called and asked about it, I was on the phone, transferred from one rep to another, for twenty minutes. The rad. was nearly a year past the warranty period (one year). They would only refund 30% of the cost, after telling me they would refund 100%. Finally, they agreed to replace it.

I only agreed b/c they said the new one is made in the US. I don't know where the one I have is made. Hopefully, the joints from the tubes to the tanks is better now. If this one goes bad in one year, as the first one did, I'll go to plan B.
