new guy here. chevy man my entire life, big blocks aplenty.
however, the epa has screwed us on that one and the ford diesel won me over this time.
picked up an xlt 6.7 crew cab short bed fx4 and i'm fitting it with with toolboxes, diesel tanks, grill guards and the like.
however, i can't find a decent tailgate protector. i twist lots of things together on the tailgates of my pickups and i don't want to screw up painted aluminum. does anybody have any leads?
also, there is ZERO room between the cab and the bed. i can't see any way i can get a backup nut in there to mount my diesel tank. i'm thinking of trying out jack nuts if i have to but i'd rather not as 4/10" is as big as i can find them. anybody else dealt with this issue?
Have you thought about a spray in bedliner to protect your tailgate and bed?
i've already put down a rubber bed mat and mounted sliding drawer boxes behind the wheel wells
i wouldn't be opposed to doing the tailgate by itself with a do-it-yourself bedliner kit but i'd rather get a purpose made protector if such a thing exists
there's gonna be a whole lot of stuff bolted to heavy duty trucks in the way of toolboxes and the like. i doubt very seriously that the vast majority of people are going to search out aluminum bolts or any other such goofy crap
perhaps ford should have thought aluminum beds through a little further if that's the case
I would personally remove the boxes and mat, get it bedlined (including tailgate) and then reinstall the boxes and mat. Preferably with hardware that won't deteriorate the aluminum.
i used the same bolts i've used for the past 25yrs
used a two inch washer though so it'll take a hell of a lot of corrosion to unass those boxes...
I have worked on a lot of aluminum bodied service vehicles in my time and mounting anything with a steel fastner is going to bring you lots of corrosion think twice about this.
