I know some of you have gone efi ,and Im leaning that way,,,,,,looking back what would you have done differently in your set up,,,,,I know you have the simplicity of command center surge pump ,keeping your stock mechanical fuel pump,,in tank fuel pump with return lines,,,,,,,,Im all ears and learning ,any input much appreciated
I've been researching and planning on doing this for a couple of years now and just haven't gotten much time to do anything. My plans are to build a 331 with an Explorer intake and using a fuel tank from a newer (1995 or older F150) which uses an intank pump and bolts right in. I also plan on running hard line with braided hose (rated for todays ethanol fuel).
It really depends on how much time you have or how much you are wiling to spend. If it's a tight budget, get a donor EFI F150 and swap everything from it. If money is no object, an aftermarket efi kit and the Aeromotive Phantom retrofit fuel pump kit would work well too.
I run EFI on my hot rod and planning it on my Dent. The hot rod has tank in pump (custom) which is IMO the best setup. Probably why the OE's use it.
On my dent, I will likely run remote sump. I would want the low pressure pump low on the rear frame rail where it is cool and the sump and high pressure pump nearby. This is an older type OE setup that works well and is more compatible with the OE style 38 gallon tank that I already have on my Dent.
I would not want to use the OE fuel pump to feed the sump. Dents, mine included, can vapor lock on the input line to the mechanical pump.
I am not sure if I will purchase and adapt one of the sump systems available or make my own for the dent. Most likely the low pressure pump feeding the sump will be a Carter.
On my '70 Bump I've got an Edelbrock E-Street V1.0... still running it returnless (pulse-width modulated) but if I ever get my life back from house remodels it will have a return line and a rear-mounted 19-gallon tank from an International Scout.
I think a Holley Sniper may be in the future for my 73 4x4... no sump.
Thanks for all the reply's,When you all say no sump ,that is what fi-tec would call their command center,is that correct?Holley makes their in tank fuel pump with sock.I believe my fuel line coming from the rear of my hb,no tank as of yet,is a 3/8 line. What would be the return line diameter? Other options beside Holley pump and sock, suggestions.I thought I read the sock is only good maybe 2 years, correct me if Im wrong

Correct.
IIRC, return lines can be the same size or larger then the supply line.
Are you referring to a fuel mat or a sock pre-filter?...
We did a stock tank and used a surge tank with a low pressure electric pump and a high pressure electric pump. Both external. Return line from surge T's into the tank vent line.
I noticed LMC has the fitec in their new catalog,as well as bucket seats low back
LMC tends to be overpriced on some parts... like an Eddy 1405/1406 carb. I recall like over $525.
Those are TMI seats... YOW... $860 per seat? Plus a $155 bracket? That's $2000 for two! Better off going aftemarket for Corbeaus, Recaros, or Sparco for that price..... And those brackets look really, really weak.
You'd be better off finding early Mustang buckets and upgrading them with TMI Sport foams and upholstery. I opted for 69/70 high backs for $100 then totally rebuilt them with new hardware, burlaps, Sport foams, and appropriate Mach 1 Sport upholstery... done for a hair less than $1000. Pics in my '70's build thread.
does the return line usually run on the opposite side of frame? and the phantom is similar to the Holley internal fuel pump any difference or preference

Not sure if it is usual or not, but I ran both of my lines down the drivers side frame rail, as I did not want to have to contend with fuel running down both frame rails.
My next set-up will have a high pressure in tank fuel pump.
Really happy with the $500 I spent on my fuel system. Tanks Inc. in-tank pump kit and LS fuel line kit with a Fitech. If I could do again now I'd go with Holley sniper for the perceived better software. The snipe wasn't out yet as I was an early FiTech adopter
