Need AC help.
Need help with my acs. I have a 93 Explorer and a 93 F-150 and both do the same thing when I turn on the ac. They both cycle on and off but do not cool. The F-150 was working till a couple of weeks ago. Would greatly appreciate any help I can get. Thanks. af

let's see.. 2 vehicles times 1000 dollars=2000 dollars for A/C repairs at a shop. I would Research this situation thoroughly. Or it is time to trade the old trucks in. I have gone into a shop a couple of times for A/C repairs and didn't get what I wanted after spending alot of money. The problem was...me, I didn't understand the first thing about how my A/C worked. Read all you can on the subject of A/C systems so that you can make a very good choice what to do. If your system is R-12, the mechanics will want more money and try to persuade you to convert to an R-134a system, which means new o-rings, compressor, orifice tube and accumulator. The labor alone will be enuf to kill a weeks pay. If your systems are R-134a, I would try to find the leak yourself, and fix it. If you are fairly good with tools and have a good R-134a manifold guage to check low and high side pressures you may get lucky. You will also need some A/C line disconnect tools if a hose connection is leaking.

Replacing a good compressor, accumulator, etc, to convert to R-134 is usually a scam. If you properly vacuum and old system, change the valves to R-134 type, and charge with the right oil, 134 mix, they almost alwsy work fine.
