flathead identification

In my dad's 1948 and my 1951 f1s there is a flathead v8 239 cid, 3.9L. We need some help to identify the years of the engines. they both say on the heads........
8BA 8RT 6520

please help!!

its hard to order parts for an engine we dont know the year of....lol

are the coolant lines in the middle or front of the engine?

8BA could be a correct engine for both trucks. Do not order any internal parts till you know exactly what is inside the engine. There is a good chance parts have been replaced with oversize or undersize parts at a previous repair or rebuild.

It could be anything from a '48 to a '53 ('54 in Canada). As was asked above, what do you need to replace? There are running changes made in the valves, connecting rods, and a few other minor bits thru those years, but in general, all are interchangeable.

Best bet is to get new ones at NAPA, they don't show to have them but they really do. Need to use the cross-reference for a Gates #5508
