390 build

How's everyone doing? It's been a while since I've been online. I finally got around to building another engine for the wife's truck. The one I got originally decided to take a crap on me. There went $2500. So now I'm putting the heads and intake one it. Started spinning the oil pump and have no oil in the left head. Mind you these are new edelbrock aluminum heads. Freshly machined 40 over. Not sure if I put the head gasket on the right way. Read the gasket. Just read front. Nothing else. Anyone else have this idea? Thanks

If you by left head mean drivers side head, check the second rocker arm bolt from front end. It should be the one with smaller diameter above the threads to allow oil to pass from head to rocker arm shaft.

So just an update. What a pain in the a$$ I fixed the head gasket and installed the intake. Well the threads pulled on the new edelbrock heads. Got summit to pay for new heli coils. Went to install the stock rocker arms and while torquing the rocker arm studs down one of the heli coils came out of the head. So I called summit and they are going to Warranty the head but this build has been a f-ing nightmare. With all the setback I would have had this thing running by now. I haven't even got to the fitech injection system yet. If I had hair I would have pulled it out already. So I'm not sure it I wanna just return both heads and get a different head or what. I'm going nuts. Any ideas?

Do you use a torque wrench?
What was the setting for the rocker arm stud bolts?
But maybe more important - Summit is going to warrant you which is nice.
Try to get both heads replaced.
Keep calm and take it piece by piece...

When I got my heads there was one that was dropped before I got them. Summit was great about it and overnighted me a new one. I had zero problems with my Edelbrock heads after that.

Yes I used a torque wrench. Edelbrock torque specs are 100 ft lbs for the rocker arm bolts but that sounds very high to me. Since stock is only 45. Gonna call edelbrock and make sure what the torque is

Ya it's not even close. Suppose to be 35ft lbs. So I should have double checked and feel like an idiot. I didn't even get to 40-50 ft lbs when it let go so. Summit is going to warranty the head.

100 ft-lbs...?
Seems to be the spec for cylinder head bolts.

I followed the direction from the box. Guess I should have looked into it a little more bit I didn't. Don't know why. The heads are 110. Wanted to make sure I did everything right but that's what I get. My new head is on the way already.

OK so got the engine running but I have no reverse or park. So this is my first auto rebuild. It's a c6. Truck wants to lurch forward and will start in all gears. Gonna pull the pan in the morning and see if I screwed up the linkage but any one have some other ideas. Might have to pull it and check the one way clutch. My luck I put it in backwards. Thanks

Starting in all gears and no reverse or park sounds like the external linkage isn't right. Is the neutral safety switch on the column or the transmission?

Got it figured out. Linkage was messed up in the pan. Shifts great now. Finally took it for a ride this afternoon. Thanks
