2002 transmission (?) noises
I have been towing a 12,000 lb 5th wheel with my 350. The truck has 14,000 miles on it. There are no problems without the trailer but when pulling up a grade with the trailer there is a noise that sounds like the transmission is slipping. It sounds like the rpm is increasing/decreasing but the engine tach is not changing so I'm just guessing here that it's the transmission. On steep grades at around 2700 - 3000 rpm I'm also getting a harmonic that sounds like a whistle. Transmission temperature never changes and I'm not using overdrive on anything other than flat land or downhill grades. Can anyone give me an idea of what might be happening?

I hear the same thing. I posted a question on "Fan Noise" on this sight that you should check out. Also posted an update about ambient temp above 85 is where the nosie starts. I'm convinced that it is the fan clutch engaging and disengaging that is making this noise.
