I have recently converted a 1967 F100 to front disk brakes, installed a power booster, and left the rear as factory drum brakes. My problem is getting the balance correct between the front and rear brakes. The proportioning valve from the donor truck was moved in the conversion. Any suggestions on how to correct this problem?
Specifics of what discs you installed and a photo of the booster/MC and the brake valve would greatly help identify what type they are.
As far as the brake valve goes, the proportioning function of it has nothing to do with the rear brakes under 'normal' braking. The only time the proportioning valve comes into play is under heavy braking --such as in a panic stop situation. Any other time, the proportioning valve is normally open and non-active.
You have to remember any new brake pads of shoes take 300-1000 miles too seat, depending on how you drive an where you live. So this may be what your experiencing if the stopping is not up to par of what you think it is.
