Ugh! Please Help!

my 93 with rear abs would occasionally light the abs light after starting the engine, my speedo never had a problem, so i am guessing that this is differnt

Since ABS is a speed related system, the system may have been telling you that it was not recieveing the correct input from the speedo --

if the speedo is not working, focus on that, -- the ABS issue will probably clear up when the speedo issue is fixed.

I can't be more specific, but i hope that gives you someplace to start

Welcome to FTE!!!!

Your RABS sensor in the rear dif. is bad, or the connector to it.
This sensor is used for the RABS, the speedometer, and the
transmission shift points. Your transmission is probably shifting
funny also......

well i just got my truck back and it turned out to be the rear wheel speed sensor that was causing all the problems. thanks a lot for helping me figure out what the problem was.

Ugh! Please Help!

Howdy folks,

Great forum. I've had a similar problem with my '99 XLT (3.0L 5spd 2WD) - just started about a week ago where the ABS light came on and the speedometer stopped working below 40MPH (above 40MPH everything went fine - although ABS light stayed on).

How difficult is this sensor to get to? Is it something a mechanically inclined novice can attmept to replace or am I better off taking it to my mechanic?

Thanks for any additional feedback.

Dave

Ugh! Please Help!

About a month 3 months ago, I had my rear axle and u-joints (not certain exactly new to the under carriage) re-greased and approx. a week later ABS light comes on intermittently at about 40 mph while in third. Could it be possible the shop loosened a connector to the RABS or somehow offset the Speed Sensor? Where is the RABS connector located on the 94 Ranger XLT Extended Cab?

The RABS sensor is located on top of the rear differential. I just changed mine on my 94 one bolt is all that holds it in plus the electrical connector.
