Lightbulb Fuel Filter Change... Its Time..

Could someone post directions for installing a new fuel filter?
I'm a new owner of my PSD (about six weeks) and I think its time for fuel filter change... Thanks

P.S. any images would help..

Any time I change my fuel filter I like to completely drain the fuel bowl. You also might want to install a piece of tubing (5/16" I think) to catch the fuel and water coming out of the fuel bowl. Anyway, here's the procedure I follow:

1. Open the drain valve on the fuel bowl
2. Open the lid on the fuel bowl and remove the cap and old filter
3. After the bowl fully drains close the drain valve and fill it about 1/2 way up with fuel additive (I use Standyne lubricity formula for this)
4. Attach the new o-ring to the lid and coat with fresh diesel fuel (make sure you follow the direcitons for the ring so that the beveled edge is in the correct direction)
5. Attach the new fuel filter to the lid
6. Install the filter/lid back into the fuel bowl
7. Turn the key and wait to start (gives the fuel bowl a chance to comletely fill up)

Fuel Filter Change... Its Time..

The fuel filter is supposed to be changed every 15,000 miles. Make sure you do some shopping around for the fuel filter. I could not get it at the local Pep Boys nor could they order it for me. The Ford dealer wanted $56.00 for it. I located it at a car parts store in Jersey City, NJ for $27.50. The name of the store was Buywise on bishop st. They have an 800 number also.
Hope that helps you get an idea on how much to pay.

They're only $17.09 from Diesel Injection Service.

john....where do you attach the plastic tubing....When I changed my filter, I looked all over for where the valve emties and couldn't find it...I finally just drained it ( and cringed the whole time) with the diesel running everywhere. I read somewhere that it is supposed to be a chrome looking tube coming out on the passenger underside of the engine???? is this correct?

It's really hard to spot. Get a flashlight and look under your truck with the hood open. Try and follow the route from the fuel bowl and eventually you will find the drain. If possible, have a second person open and close the drain so you can find it, just make sure you aren't directly underneath it!

The drain is on the passenger side of the motor, up high and near the front.Crawl under passenger side and look straight up close to the front of the motor.
It is ridgid metal tubing and has a slight angle back to the rear.
I slip a piece of 5/16" rubber tubing over it and slide the tubing into a milk jug when draining it.
One thing I am learning is change it about every 7000 miles (every 2 oil changes) because mine have come out really dirty each time.
I buy from high volume fuel dealers but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

I think that the diesel itself turns it brown/black quickly. I checked mine for Shi@s and giggles at 3,000mi and it look like poo.

An easy way to remove the filter cap is to use your oil filter wrench. I used the band wrench that has the 90 degree swivel. Works great!
