so i have a 92 bronco 302 with an msd6offroad ignition, msdblaster2 coil, a k&n fipk, bosch platinum +4 plugs, accel8.8mm wires, a bosch 02 sensor, a helix bore throttle body, new IAC valve solenoid, new egr valve sensor, stock exhaust manifold, and a pacesetter turbo muffler exhaust.
my first problem is a high indle in neutral and park. the car will start as high as 2000rpm when cold and will not go below 1450rpm regardless of engine temp. when in gear with brakes on it idles at around 900rpm.
my other problem occurs intermittently, usually when the engine is still warm. i will start the motor succesfully and it will die after about 4-10 seconds of running. immediately after attempts to start wil just keep cranking. the motor will usually start after a minimum of 20-30 mins. sometimes when i have this hot start engine stall it will diesel after it has died for a while or until i turn the ignition to the off position.
i have asked countless people/mechanics and nobody really seems to know what it is. does anybody out there have similar problems on their modified 302 with bank fire speed/density eec-iv?
this may sound nut and may not help, but try swapping the coil for you stock one or anyother one, and see if it stops the engine not cranking hot. as far as idle speed, you said you have a new IAC, how bout TPS, or vaccuum leak? stuff like this can be a pain! Good luck DW
I have heard alot of people complain about the Bosch plugs. They really dont do what the claim, and can actually cause problems in some motors. Try switching them out for a normal set of Motorcraft plugs and see if that doesnt at least tone down or get rid of some of your problems.
Check to make sure your TPS is reading .77v at rest, and near 4.5-5.0v whenever your throttle body is wide open. You can do this by sticking a straight pin into the hot wire of the TPS and reading it with a multi-meter.
i think ill try changing the plugs and the coil. see if that helps. im actually giving my truck some time right now, its doing the hot start thing again. keeps cranking wont start. wonder if fuel delivery is the problem.
forgot to mention i have a superlift truspeed speedometer calibrator along with all the other things i listed in the 1st post. my engine is still either not starting at all hot or starting and dying shortly after. happened again tonight. i wish i had a code scanner. cant really try the switching of plugs or coil as i have a broken right hand now. life sucks. any other ideas as to cause of the hot starting problem?
howd you know? actually i fell off my bike at a good 25-30mph. guess what! my *****ing bronco broke some more. now my passenger window is dead (and all the way down) and cant even take the doorpanel off because im a gimp. anyways still have the hot start problem. ugh.
My '90 302 had the same "high idle" prob...turned out to be a leaking intake manifold gasket...found it by spraying carb cleaner along the manifold w/the engine running until it surged more (do this VERY carefully - carb cleaner is flamible).
Also, on my '90, it is possible to get the "check eng" light to flash out certain codes by jumping two terminals on the EEC test concetor under the hood. I got a good book on this, that contained many of the codes. Not sure if this still works on a '92 (OBDII??)
