Searched forum and couldn't find information on a "Spare Tire Carrier Upgrade", though I seem to recall reading something to the affect on the subject last Fall of 2016.


Considering performing a spare tire carrier upgrade on my 77 F-150 4X4 SWB. Our work fleet of Ford F-Series P-U Trucks have a crank / cable via the rear bumper to lower and raise the spare tire. Though I don't want to loose my existing OEM spare tire carrier that positively secures the spare tire in place, but am wanting the ability via cranking to raise and lower the spare tire. Has anyone performed this and if so do they remember what bill of materials will be needed and if anything needs to be taken into account before hand, i.e., relocating something? At a glance looking underneath the newer Ford P-U trucks, it seems doable.

 

It should be pretty easy to do. A piece of flat bar across the frame rails. Mount the winch, run the tube to the bumper.
