welding questions

Simply, yes, it can be done. Is it cost effective? I doubt it. A welder or machine shop than can do aluminum will charge $100/hr with either .5 or 1 hr minimum. For $15 you can go to home depot, buy some stainless or aluminum bracketry, epoxy, and bolts and you are done, minus drilling two holes.

welding questions

Have you guys ever heard of a product called alumaloy or alumaweld? www.alumaloy.net http://www.virtual-adnet.com

I've seen their info-mercials on TV. It seems to be a sort of solder used for repairing/attaching aluminum. Apparently, all you need is a standard propane torch to work it. I spent about a minute on the web researching it, and from what I understand it is effective. You need clean parts (no contaminants or the bond will be poor), and have to seal the weld if it will be exposed to corrosive aluminum. I don't work with this kind of stuff, so I can't really comment. But I figured I would throw this option on the table in case it's of any use.
