1949 F1 BELL HOUSING

I am building a 1949 f1 with a flathead v8. it has a 59t transmission with a stamped steel bell housing. when installing bell housing it comes in contact with 6 corners of 11 inch clutch just inside where rear cast adapter plate bolts up. anyone know if my clutch and flywheel are wrong. i am wondering if the bell housing has been changed. should it be cast?. does it still use adapter plate? trans does not have an integral bell housing on front.

Welcome to FTE! I do know the cast bellhousing will work with the 11" clutch, I am not sure about the pressed steel one for the V8.

Trucks never used stamped steel BH's, I suspect someone swapped engines and used the BH from a car. Mark is correct, you need the cast iron one for a truck.

Pressed steel, I believe, is from Mercury cars.

It looks like this, and is more than 3" deep, I'd guess (but don't have one loose to measure).
