Hi, I'm trying to rebuild my 1984 f-250 XL and I can't find the front wheel arch moldings or the straight piece that goes towards the top of the fender. I took the driver side wheel arch molding off of a 1986 f-150 XLT but the passenger side was smashed and it doesn't have the upper pieces. Every salvage yard I've looked at either has the trucks without molding or they've been wrecked and the molding I need is destroyed. Does anyone know where I could order the trim pieces from?
thanks for any help
Well, without knowing the part numbers you are looking for I don't think anyone can help you since there were several different pieces of trim.
I need EOTZ16004A, EOTZ16004C, and EOTZ16003C I was able to get EOTZ16003A from my parts truck but the right side fender was smashed and I was lucky with the left side because it was smashed above the molding
In my case the two pieces I needed were only available from one place, and I had to have them. Twice the price wasn't an issue as they were the only two available on the planet.

You said it all, Chief. In some cases, you have to pay to play. When I was trying to put together the complete set of mouldings for my truck, I came across this same scenario: I was at the mercy of the dealer that had the last known one left on the planet. Most of the time, the sellers were good to me. A couple of times though, I didn't get a break. But I had to have it, so I paid for it. Once some of these NOS trim parts are gone, they may very well be gone forever. I think the two styles of upper trim mouldings our trucks have fit into that category.
Did you finally get all of the unique upper trim pieces you needed to finish Dad's Truck?
Yes, I did get the trim, sorta. It was the little-used bright upper trim with the rubber insert, and I found good examples of all but the 8' bedside ones. I finally found the bedside ones, but when I got them I found out why they had been rejected for many years - both were twisted and slightly bent. My paint/body man said he can straighten them and we can use them, but they really aren't what I want for Dad's truck.
Then, along came Big Blue, which uses the same upper trim and it came with a full set of replacement trim. But Vernon bought the replacements a couple of years ahead of me and got perfect pieces. So, since Big Blue will be a very nice truck when painted, but not in the same class as Dad's, he'll get the trim I bought and Dad's will get the perfect trim.
Let me get this straight: you acquired a FREE truck, that came with lots of new, FREE parts, plus two sets of the rare mouldings you were looking for - one in perfect shape - also FREE? And since you got this FREE truck that was in even better shape than Rusty, you were able to sell it?
I don't think it could have worked out any better than that, Chief!
Is that style of moulding held on with adhesive tape?
You might want to keep the trim you bought as backup for replacements, in case your perfect mouldings get damaged. That is the dilemma I was facing: now that I got the last early 1985 upper trim mouldings on the planet - and they aren't reproduced, and probably never will be - what will I do if any of the pieces become damaged? (I am always on the lookout for extras.)
"Big Blue" would look great with a Ford dark blue/light blue/dark blue tape stripe where that upper moulding currently is. That is what usually came on the later 1985 and 1986 models to separate the tu-tone colors. The moulding that is on there now was usually found on the earlier models with solid colors.

I'll answer for Gary... "A true gentleman never tells!"
Right, but not perfect. I bought one set of new trim and Big Blue came with a set. The only difference is that the one that came with BB has perfect bedside trim, while the bedside trim I bought needs to be tweaked a bit.
But, the trim is held on by clips on studs. So, to convert to any other trim the studs would have to be ground off. It is doable, but I'd have to talk to my paint/body man to figure out what the cost would be as he would have to replicate the stripe in paint.
As for the deal having been perfect, I think of it as a "marriage made in heaven". Or a symbiotic relationship. Dad's truck is going to get so many NOS parts, but I have almost perfect replacements I've been hoarding that will go on BB. Plus, the ZF5 built for Dad's is going in BB as having a 460 turning 2500 RPM at 65 MPH is silly - no wonder they got such poor MPG.
