just putting the dash cluster back into my old girl and notice two stray wires hanging.
in the picture you will see the yellow triangular/rectangular plug/connector.
one is BLACK going into it and is not removable, the other has the removable BLACK/GREEN wire coming out of it with YELLOW end that is not connected to anything and the third has nothing coming out of it.
also have a BROWN wire with a BLACK end on it similar to the YELLOW one that goes nowhere...
have a similar issue, im going to follow this thread. someone will help you, i had a tonne of help from these guys while re-wiring my truck.
good luck!
The yellow 3 way connector is either a constant 12 v power or key on accessory connector. A test light would confirm. The brown wires are on the headlight circuit, if I recall correctly. A wiring diagram will confirm this. FYIU the best wiring diagram and source of all info is in the ford factory service manuals. I have them but just going off memory for now. They are definitely worth the cost and electronic copies can be bought on CD on ebay if you want. The ford diagrams will show connector shapes and colors with wire and circuit descriptions.
great thank you for the info orangeford. any chance you know what these two specific ones should be connected to? or maybe they were never connected to anything?
Brown should be for running lights, but that wire looks a little light in color. Black/green is shown as 4wd indicator light. This diagram is for the f series trucks, but basic wiring should be the same as a Bronco.
The black and green wires are various power feeds. The yellow 3 way connector is fed from fuse #10 (a 20 amp accessory feed) used for horn and speed control, marker lamp relay, dual battery relay, 4 wheel drive indicator(full time 4x4 only). See fordification wiring diagram page 1 connector C-503.
Note that these are optional items but you could tap into this to power other devices.
The brown wires are fed from the headlight switch park lamp circuit. So anytime you turn headlamps or park lights on this circuit should have power. The brown plug was used for optional items like marker lamps, fog lamp switch and trailer running lamp relay. See fordification wiring diagram page 6 for connector C901.
These are both excellent places to tap into power without butchering your harness for accessories.
