I'm hoping that someone can take a few seconds and explain the way that the 4by system is engaged? The transfer case is engaging and the front shaft is turning but power is not gettitng to the front wheels. The truck in question does not have any "hubs" as I know them. is there a switch or something in the front rear end. thanks
truck in question is a 99f150,4x4,xcab, auto, 4x4 shifter is on the floor.
There is a vacuum operated servo on the right front axle. Basically when you put it in 4x4 vacuum is sent to the servo which then couples together the axle and the shaft that goes into the front diff.
If you do a search with the search button you'll find quite a few questions on these. The more common problems are broken or disconnected vacuum hoses and bad vacuum solenoids which send the vacuum to the servo on the diff. The solenoids are mounted on the firewall near the battery.
