Curiosity is a dangerous thing. Spirits, ghosts, ghouls or whatever you would wish to call them are for the most part an unproven phenomena.. Unfortunately, the only proven manifestations of things metaphysical, spooky or spirit generated have been malevolent in the extreme; People have been killed, property destroyed and sanity driven from many people because of the behavior of spooks. I know that people claim none exist, but then that is their safety net - if they don't believe in it, maybe it will not get them.
My vocation has put me in the way of such phenomena a number of times, and I have NEVER seen a friendly one. I have seen terrified ones, angry ones, crying ones, maniacal ones, and even seen evidence of invisible ones, but never a nice one. Ghosts tend to be none communicative - they don't talk to folk, they don't warn anyone of anything, so maybe they can't see us.. I don't know, I just know that I would not advise anyone to mess with them - I personally know a few people, now resident in long term care, who were fine until they met a spook.
If you must mess with them, remember you are not invincible, spooks DO exist (even the Bible mentions them) and they are not friendly.

Theo
We were very polite and respectful - we announced who we were and what we were doing. We didn't just go crashing in there, laughing and screaming.
before i was born, and my sister was just an infant my mother was home alone with my sister, wahsing clothes in the basement. no one else was home due to a death in the family, but since my sister was sick my mom couldnt attend the funeral. so shes downstairs, and she hears the front door open. it slams shut... footsteps across the kitchen- basement door opens... she calls out but no one replies... footsteps start coming down the stairs, louder and closer- but no one is there... she grabs my sister and runs out of the house, right past whatever was making the noise. kind of creepy.
when i was 14 i was staying up north with my cousins/family for the summer. my cousins lived next door to my grandmothers house at the time, one night i ran to my grandmas at about 10:00 at night to grab a pop. the whole family was at the bar at the time for my uncles birthday, and my grandma always leaves the kitchen light on. i run across the deck, and happened to see something in the window- sitting on the couch, right where my grandfather always use to sit, in a plaid shirt and brown slacks, ( those were my grandfathers favorite clothes so we burried him in those 4 years before this night) yeah im 100 % positive i saw my grandfather sitting on the couch, only problem was he passed away 4 years earlier... same clothes we burried him in. i didnt go into the house then, i didnt even sleep that night
i dotn know much about the ghost thing, other than that they are spirits of deceased people, now, for one thing, i know i will NEVER be a ghost, and i can assume 100% that none of my fellow brothers or sisters in the Lord, past or present are anywhere on this earth afther they have died, if you are a born again christian, when you leave this earth, you are immediately in the presence of the God of the universe, my heart longs for that day, i would NEVER NEVER want to leave the presence of the Living God, so i can guarantee you that i or any other born again christian will be a ghost.
Well, Nick I must disagree with you, and Theo, respectfully diagree, I do believe in ghost, I do not believe that you go straigh to heaven after you die, but I do believe there are some, if not alot, of nice...or not-so-mean ghost....IMHO.
I'm the type who doesn't believe anything til I see it. My sister has stories of a ghost when we lived in West Virginia, my friend has stories of a ghost in their shorehouse where a lady died in it. Me? I'll believe in them when I see it. I don't exactly plan on going on ghost hunting trips or anything of the sort. For those that do.. enjoy! Hehe, just don't break any laws to do so!
i have no dis-belifs in ghosts but I am the kind of person that cannot completely believe until I see one. I used to be really interested in them when I was younger most because my Dad is a big civil war buff and we would go to all the confederate war sites and hear stories about the soilders who haunt the historic houses on the sites. Also there used to be a serious of books I think it was called something like Famous Ghosts In Alabama or something like that, my brother and I always read when we would come down to visit my grandparents. But to this date I have yet to see one but I think they might be there because there have been so many things that people have seen that cannot be explained. or maybe they are aliens.
I forgot to mention - my mom had a ghostly encounter about 18 years ago. I was 3, my grandfather (her stepdad) had passed away. The day after his passing, the phone rings at my grandma's house (everyone was there to "regroup" I guess; I'm not too familiar with the logistics of a funeral) and my mom picks it up and says "hello?". The voice on the line was my grandfather, all he said was "Sharon?" but he was I believe Italian, and had a very specific way of saying her name. She couldn't speak, and hung up. To this day, she insists that it was my grandpa and wishes she responded.
I'm guessing he wanted to tell her he was ok. Her biological dad skipped town when she was young, so she never had an emotional attachment to him. Her stepdad was her father, as far as she's concerned.
Call me a skeptic. I don't belive in many things that cannot be explained by physics, biology, chemistry or math.
I have never experienced anything remotely paranormal. I think you'll find that most of these "sightings" are related to highly emotional events for the witness. Emotions are one of these things not easily understood by the basic sciences. This lends the mind and it's emotions to be the variable.
I saw my first ghost when I was almost 3 years old- too young to make it up, and I remember it to this day. My mother still can't explain it.
What about these "well-documented" sightings? I saw one where I used to live, people have been seeing it for 100 years or so. The local authorities and ghosthunters investigate every few years but no one can give a logical or scientific explanation. Meanwhile it's been written up in all the local ghost books. Scared the hell out of me, I know.

Well, I'm not a born again christian. One birth was enough for me. I am however confirmed in Christ. I was talking to God last night and he told me that when all you fundamentalists get to heaven he's going to call me home and we'll both go to Texas on an extended (eternal) fishing trip. Make sure you clean up after yourselves while we're gone.
I live in a 150 year old house that used to belong to the Anglican church.
They had weddings, funerals, baptisms, people have been born in this house and have died here..
Some nights when everything is quiet, the dog will suddenly start to act differently (and i've had two different dogs since I lived here, both have done the same thing) then there will be a noise, power will flash, sudden wind outside, something of that nature. Probably just my imagination.... but what if?......
