If any of you gentlemen have installed a Bakflip MX4 on your 2017 Superduty, I have a question about shims on the rails. I'm getting conflicting info from Bak on if the rails should have shims or not, I don't feel like the rails fit very tight on the truck. Thanks for any help

My Bakflip F1 came with shims installed on the rails for 2017 F350.
There was a strip of plastic about 1/2" wide that ran the entire length of the rail, but no separate pieces. You don't happen to have a pic do you? They said they should have been installed, but I'm not seeing them.

Are you sure that "strip of plastic" was not the foam seal that you put along the top of the front truck bed rail?
My MX4 rails sort of "sagged" down a little and didn't sit up high and tight against the side of the bed rail as I assume yours are. I just made sure the teeth on the clamps were as high up as they could go and tightened the bolts. Once the cover and its weight is in place in the track, it leveled everything out and has worked great now for a few months. I never saw or used any shims (they may have already been installed??). I did use my own shims to get the tailgate seal just as I wanted, so the tailgate opened and closed unhindered, I am in my truck bed probably 6 times a day, everyday. Good luck!

No, I know the foam type seal across the front of the bed. Your explanation of the rails "sagging" is exactly what I am referring to. They did not feel like they were fitting right. It seems okay since I got it all assembled, but I was worried it may not be water tight as it did not feel like the rails fit right at all.
I'd also be interested in what you did at the tailgate, as it doesn't seem to work as smoothly as they claim there.
I installed an MX4. My kit didn't come with shims and ultimately didn't need them. I agree the rails tend to slope/sag down into the bed a bit making the fit very tight at first. I adjusted the clamps to get them as secure as possible and the fit, while still snug, has loosened up with use.
The first few times I shut the tailgate it was also a bit snug to the top with the cover closed. That has also improved and I just make sure it to slam it hard with the cover down.
Mine came with the hard plastic strip the rail. It would not work properly with it on; I had to remove it and then all fit perfectly. It seems that some come from the factory with it pre-installed. Remove it and you should be golden.

Yes. The solid piece the entire length of the rail? Thats what I kept trying to tell Bak, and they insisted that there should be a spacer every 8 inches. But that piece of plastic is what makes it feel wobbly. Does the top still fit the rails well with it removed?

Here is a quick video and photos for reference points on how I did my install. The picture with my knife is pointing to the gap where I used some 1"x1" 1/8th inch thick shims (cut up plastic dealer tag) to get the tailgate to open and shut smoothly and not hit the bed cover lip. It may not be correct because I think the seal under the cover is suppose to sit on top of the tailgate but like you, I didn't like the way it hung up slightly when trying to open and close the tailgate. I go to automatic car washes and always toss my hitch in the back and replace it when I am done and never see any more than a drip or two of water if that.
Sorry to get a little off topic, but anyone planning a Bak Box as well? I called the 1-800 number yesterday. Apparently the 2017 Box is not yet ready, and they don't have an ETA either.

I really like the idea but not sure it is worth the cost to me. I just use a couple of clear plastic bins right now.
I was really interested in a bakbox until I saw the cost on them.
A little update, bakflip is sending me "shims" that were supposed to be installed at the factory. I am interested to see what I receive. I think what I am ultimately going to end up doing is taking the long plastic strips off the inside of the rails as that seems to be the issue making the rails mount at the weird angle.
