I have a 2000 F350 and I am having problems figuring out what's going on with it. I can very rarely get cruise control to activate, and when it does it seems very finkicky. When I I do get it to activate, I can apply the brakes and the cruise control will deactivate like normal, however it automatically reactivates its self as soon as I let off the brakes. I am at a lost on to way my cruise stopped working.
These are some of the steps I've taken in hopes to find the problem....
-replaced steering wheel switches.
-horn works
-no air bag light
-disconnected and cleaned both brake switches.
-jumped the brake pressure switch with a piece of wire to connect the circuit
-checked all fuses.
Disconnected PCM and cleaned all contacts.
I believe that there was a recall for the CC where they replace the brake pressure switch (I think). Should be able to look it up with your VIN, but I sort of questio the accuracy of the information. My truck is square in the middle of the vehicles in question but Ford says that mine was not in the recall. Mine was built at the KY plant so I don't know if that is why or not.

Because you state:

Your issue may be the steering wheel control switch. Any one of the three on the right side of the horn / air bag. Or somewhere in those circuits. Those are the only circuits that "active" the speed control. The brake switch / sender opens those circuits. Suggest removal and a cleaning with a contact cleaner specific to electrical contacts.
Thank you for your reply! I will pull the switch back out and re clean the contacts and try again. Do you think that these new switches could be a problem? They were brand new from the dealer but that doesn't mean that I didn't get faulty switches from the dealer.
The switches essentially send a resistance reading that the pcm picks up to accel, resume, or cancel cruise. With it it reactivating as u said, i would say it would have to be one or the other. I am in freightliner and cannot remember what the switches say at present.
The reason i know its a resistance is on some 03 models if you held the top left button and the bottom right button together, the horn would blow.
Actually mine did have the recall done before I bought the truck.

I believe that there was more than one recall on this issue. Perhaps yours only had the first one done. Should show one way or the other in the vehicle history.
