I have a 1996 Ford F-250 SC 4X4 short box with a 460 and AT. it has a 4 inch lift and is running 35" tires. the problem I am running in to is that whe I get it under power the transfer case jumps up and hits the floor of the truck. This is most noticable when I have a couple of people in the cab, but not when towing. I suspect that the cab mounts are probly worn, but the motor mts and trany monts seem fine, has anyone else had this problem or know what to do to fix it. I would appreciate any input.
thanks
Scott
I personally have never had this problem. I would try looking at the transfer mounts on the transfer and the frame to see if they are solid, if you can't lift or "jiggle" it try easily jacking it up to look for movement. Hope this helps if not write back, and I will go to my truck and check it out. Right now I am on duty(Army/ in Germany) and cannot leave my post.
Thanks for the input, it doesn't accually have a tranfercase mount just the transmission mount. and it appears to be in good shape. But when you get on the power the whole transfer case comes up a few inches.
Thanks for any input.

Dou still have the factory driveshafts?. I suspect your drive angles are all messed up and this is causing your transfer case to get pushed upwards by the u/joints binding up excessively
That was one of my thoughts, I guess that is what I will check next. I don't know if it is original or not I bought the truck already lifted. anyone know what the max angle is?
Thanks
Scott
Another thing that will help with that is the new joints they have out, they can take rediculous angles and still operate fine. As far as changing the angle you would need to "clock" the rear diff. A little turning could change everything.Hope this helps. The joints I found in a 4x4 mag either petersons 4wheel and off road or 4wheel and off road, they were in there a couple of months agoyou can check out previous issues, sorry but I don't remember the month.
Thanks for the info I was thinking of repalcing all the u-joits also, I know the front ones are in need, because when the hubs are in I can feel them vibrating.
I will try that and check th angles and see what happens
Thanks again
Scott
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Dec-01 AT 03:01 PM (EST)]I have had a similar problem with my super cab even after i changed to the fivespeed, i found the transfercase mount to be broken and latter that ford had given me to high of a new mount. check those if its still bugging you
I don't apperer to have a mount under the transfer case, just the transmission. it it an automatic, and doesn't look like there ever was a mount on the transfercase, am I missing on? I guess i will check the manuals and with ford. Thanks for the advice thouigh. I haven't got a chance to change the u-joint's yet though either, so hopefully this weekend and I will let you know what i find out.
Ok I have checked that one and it ppears to be good. I will also Check to see if there is a differant one or if the wrong one is installed. Thanks for the info.
