Torque spec. needed

If someone has a shop manual I am looking for the torque specifications for the 1996 Explorer XLT 5.0L, AWD, Autotransmission oil pan bolts. I'm afraid to go too tight.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Not sure on the exact specifications, but a good rule to follow is tighten them until you can start to see the gasket become visible from the sides of the pan. Normally, it's between 14-20 Ft-lbs, but I'm not sure for your tranny

I bought a NAPA trans filter and it also had a new flat gasket. When I filled up with fluid, it leaked. So I pulled it out and reused the old gasket as the oil pan is stamped "re-usable gasket". The OE gasket is rubber coated, steel lined with twin ridges top and bottom. I don't believe that the same rules apply with this gasket as a typical gasket. I tightened it down until it stopped while gasping the ratchet at the head. This way I can't over torque it. I see a little wetness at one corner of the pan and I wonder if it is just the excess that has squeezed out or a slight leak. No drips on the pan though. I'd feel better with it torqued properly.

Thanks.

Just be careful. Once I torqued off the head of a tranny bolt, and it cost me $200 for a shop to tap out the tranny!

My Haynes manual lists Automatic transmission pan bolts at 108 to 132 inch/lbs

Try an X or Star pattern when you tighten the gasket, to try to get even pressure around the pan.

Good luck
