Question Seats Again

Would one of the '58 F100 owners out there please measure their original bench seat for me? I would like to know the length and width of the bottom and back frames and the spacing of the mounting holes and brackets. I gave Sac Vintage a call to see if they knew, but all I got was one of the parts guys thinks the '58 is slightly longer. Just not enough information. The seat I've found only needs to be recovered. I just don't want to buy it if it won't fit. Thanks in advance!

Seats Again

Craig,

In your post, are you looking for a '58 seat? or a '56 seat? Or, are they the same???

Campbell, eh? Nice little nook of a town in the San Jose Area. Got a buddy from there that I met in Gilroy a few years back. Almost took a job in Morgan Hill... 'til I looked at the cost of living there. Yikes!!!

Anyway, there's a few yards around me down here in the Visalia/Porterville area with old Fords, so please w/b and specify and I'll give them a call and see what I can help you with...

Sorry if I was a bit vague Daryl. I know what I want and assumed everyone else knew also! I gotta remember to have my coffee in the morning before I start typing on this computer.

I have a 56 with a more recent seat in it. Mounting is the same, but it has a locking back and is too long, it's rubbing the doors. There is a 58 in a Pick and Pull yard in south SJ that has a seat in it in good shape and would just require an upholstery kit to make it right. I was wondering if it is the same or close to being the same as a proper 56 seat.
I have some friends outside of Visalia I could stop in and bug the heck out of for the day!

Hope this clears up any confusion. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Yeah the housing up here is crazy. I got lucky when my ex-wife's father sold us a house super cheap when we were married. I had enough for a major down payment when we got divorced and sold it. I don't plan to stay here forever though, not enough garage.

OK this is from a 60' but should be the same. 14in bolt to bolt on the spacing in between the front and rear mounting points.

44.25in is the length of the bracket from left to right.

58 inches is the from the farthest point on the seat side to side.

I have to go back out and get the spacing for the two bolts on each bracket. If you need any of this clarified just ask. -4speed

Thanks 4speed.
Center to center distance of the brackets on the seat I have is just under 42". So if you're measuring overall distance across the brackets, it's close to my existing seat. My seat bolts up to the existing holes in the floor and is about 58" wide also. It rubs the door and rear part of the cab on the right side and just misses the left side. I have to assume the '56 benches are narrower by at least a couple of inches. I'm going to go measure that seat in the P&P yard tomorrow. I'll post what I find out.

the center distance I gave you was from the outside of the bolt, not the actual bracket so 42" sounds right. -4speed

Eric,

While I understand your desire to keep the classified in the classified section, I think this is one of those discussions that we have to allow on the board. I will need to redo my seat on my 1956 at some point and the measurements and alternate year data the fellows are posting is really very valuable. I doubt they will be getting calls five years from now asking about seats for sale based on what's been posted.

Keep up the good work patrolling the boards. Nobody wants this to turn into a giant classified ad. A little give-and-take is always required to work things out so they meet the spirit of the FTE rules.

Guys,

Keep to the tech discussion as you've been doing. I'm keeping the details of this thread so I can use 'em when it's my turn to get my seat installed.

Thanks Earl

We had a little more than tech in a post here. I did a little editing... Don't tell anyone, but we give you guys in these early truck forums a little more "lattitude" than we do in other forums just because it is so damn hard to keep these oldies running.

Tech discussions are excellent, just try to keep the "other discussions" to a minimum. -Please, I asked nice and was given a surly reply.

The mounting holes from outside to outside are 2in.

Eric, Hey no problem. I know if you let some pass you have to let all pass so keep up the good work. I will say that you guy's are extremely patient when it comes to the 48-60 board. Later, -4speed(Daryl, don't you ever buy a 73-79)

Seat measurement

I have the exact measurement at home in the 57-58 Truck info brochure. I will post tonight when I get home. It tells you the seat height to roof, lenth of seat, gives you all of that.

Thanks,
Jack
