My '88 F250 EFI/460/C6 has a 4.1 rear end but I can't determine if it has a limited slip spider set that that doesn't work. It's easy to spin one wheel in the mud. The door code is G5 and the tab on the differential is V131C L10 10 28E14. Does anyone have the code breaker? If this is a limited slip differential how much am I looking at to fix it?
What I had read was the tag will include the ratio somewhere. In the case of a 4.10 it would have a space where the decimal point is for open differential and an "L" for limited slip:
4 10 Open
4L10 LImited slip
In your case I don't see this, but I do see a CL10 which makes me suspect that it may be a limited slip. Probably, if you knew what to look for, you could pop off the back cover and see.
Thanks for the help I have been thinking about changing the gears and putting a little larger tires on. Any suggestions of known gear ratios that keep about the same rpms as stock for say 35 X 10.5 R15's
To stay exactly stock you would have to use 4.28 gears with 35 inch tires
I put into the equation your stock tire, which should be 235/75R15XL,
And your 3.55 gear ratio.
I also used the exact tire diameter, the stock tire should be 28.9, and a 35 should be 34.9.
Since they don’t make a 4.28 ratio you will have to use a 4.10 or 4.56
Its up to you, the 4.10 will be closer to the 4.28 ratio.
