If I can't get wheel to wheel retractable boards, I'll probably go with the N-Fab nerf bars as I think they look better than the factory fixed boards.
For those interested I emailed Amp about this yesterday and just got a response:

Message: Do you offer wheel to wheel length retractable running boards for a '17 Super Duty crew cab long bed?

Jason,

Thank you for your interest in the AMP Research Powersteps. The model we offer for the 2017 Ford Super Duty comes with a 85" long running board. Unfortunately we do not offer a wheel to wheel length board. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Very nicely done. I like how tuck under and wheel to wheel too. Not to change the subject but did you tinted all the windows?

Even better, there are a TON out there on eBay and Craigslist. For under $300. They look great on the SD. No low hanging like the factory SD boards.
Are you talking about the brackets only off a F150 and use the 2017 F250 stock run board?

You can use just the brackets and your boards or go and buy a set of new/takeoff F150 running boards. I know for certain the 6” chrome are identical to the Super Duty because I just swapped mine out, they just sit tighter to the body. I got my set of F150 boards for around $240 shipped off of eBay, that’s cheaper than if you buy the brackets alone!

Like Nathan (above), I have the AMP power steps that came from the factory. I really like them.

I would go with factory steps, amp aftermarket steps or steps similar to what hammered29 posted. Hammered29 is the most rugged. The amp and factory power steps are the most functional. The factory ones are a little more "luxurious" looking while the amp steps give a little more off road feel if thats what you're looking for.

Did you have any issues with bracket fitment from Luverne? my rear bracket under the bed sits about 1/2" higher than the other brackets, making the running boards bend upwards toward the back.

I personally didn't have that issue with the Luverne step bracket, they look pretty even all around for me. I wonder if maybe this one just got the wrong bracket or something? Either way, it's been 5 years now and they are holding up perfectly. Very very happy with these; especially useful if your feet are wet/muddy.

Another vote for the Luverne Grip Step. I got the HD brackets which include a strut that braces directly against the frame and they are rock solid.

I got a set of take-off ‘21 Tremor running boards a guy about 1-1/2hr from me had on FB marketplace. REALLY like them a lot. Never had running boards before so nothing to compare them to, but they’re tucked up tight, plenty wide to step on, metal, grippy texture, and best of all they say “Ford” on them instead of “Raptor” or “Tremor”, and I only gave $300 for them.
