diesel not more dependable.....
I think this is extremely true. We hold on to "diesels last forever" but I think that's a thing of the past. The federal gov't and the EPA has put a stranglehold on the diesel. And I think that a shame.
Drove diesel for 12 yrs. Had a 7.3 for 8 yrs then a 6.0 for 4 yrs. Bought a 6.2 in September. Not because of 6.0 I never had a problem with it. Just wanted new and didn't trust the new diesel trucks.
It takes a different mind set now to own a diesel.
But like I have said before in other threads. I love my 6oh and have had great success with it. But if I ever have to get another truck, it will be a gas.

Anyway, to say one is more dependable than the other is really a moot point. Anything is reliable when taken care of and maintained properly. The gist I get off this thread is that it is only meant to ruffle the feathers of diesel owners and mayhaps spurred from a beef you may have with some.
My 7.3 has been more dependable than the 91 I currently own, simply because I am finding things the previous owner neglected in it - to the point I am probably going to have to pull the engine once my diesel comes out of the body shop.
I will admit that yes, I have had to do my fair share of maintenance to my 7.3, but then again it has almost 370k miles and I wouldn't bat an eye at getting in it and driving across the country in it. Now, if I got a brand new zero mile truck, I probably would do the same - be it a gas OR diesel truck. Would I go out and buy a new truck now? No. My 7.3 gets 18MPG in the city, roughly what a brand new truck can barely get, so to me it doesn't make sense to drop a crazy amount of money on a truck that is less efficient than the truck I currently have.
On the topic of efficiency, my diesel gets 17-18MPG in the city. My gas trucks? Maybe 12MPG. At one point I used to have my gas trucks idling in the field while working on a tractor or truck to keep the cab warm, but would burn about a quarter of a tank in a couple hours. My diesel? After running for six hours straight and idling for three or four of those, it used MAYBE an eighth of a tank. This was while outside temp was 10, maybe 20 degrees - a warm place to retreat to was a must.
While I certainly hope it wasn't, part of me thinks this thread was started just to get a rise out of people and create more drama between diesel and gas owners.

I have loved both my diesels trucks. Say what you will about diesel, gas, propane, wind, gravity...whatever...
Own what you own and enjoy it. Talk trash and you will get a response whether you like it or not.
Have a buddy that used a 2012ish V10 and he couldn't get from gas station to gas station without running out of fuel while towing. He hated it and ended up with a diesel. But, that was him.

Haha

Chris,
Let me clarify. I mean when I am old, and can't work on my diesel anymore.
Then I would go to a gas, just so that it wouldn't be so pricey to work on.
