I just bought a 72 351c block and it came with crank, cam, rods and pistons, the rods have a casting number C8OE-A AQ51 and the pistons have a 351c cast in them, everything I researched says those are 302 rods and I don't know why 302 rods would be attached to a 351c piston. I'm having no luck researching so if anybody knows what I have that would be appreciated thanks!
Sorry for the double post I thought this site would make it easier to delete post but I can't figure out how to delete. My apologies on behalf of this website
Crank is still in the block so I know it goes with the block i bought I'm just trying to figure out if I need to buy new rods which I'm pretty sure I do
The block has the crank and cam still in it and the rods and pistons came attached but not in the block and the previous owner swears that they are out of the block he sold me, I'm just trying to make sense of this before I ditch the rods for 351c rods
Thanks! I'm gonna take it by the machine shop Friday to get checked out, I'm still researching these rods to see if I have something desirable or something I'm gonna throw in the trash
no need to take it to the machine shop. Save your money and just attach One piston and rod on the crank and put it in the block. It either fits or it doesn't. if you cant do that you shouldn't even attempt a rebuild, and just farm the whole thing out to the machine shop. I guesse it all falls down to your ability to do the required work. If you have never done it, it sounds donting, but it really isn't.
I'm taking it to the machine shop to get tanked and magged anyway then off to the bead blaster but yes I will attach a rod and piston tonight to see if it fits. Thanks
