My ECU code is VLW2. The V may be a U, but I couldn't tell for sure. I think it's a V though. OH! Just so you'll know:
2003 F150 4.2L truck
XL Sport edition

5 speed
Single cab
8000 miles
only mod is a K&N filter
Hey, when you put a K&N filter on, are you supposed to unhook your battery for 20 minutes for it work right? Also, if there are any other parts like fans, rockers, or anything like that you know of that will help my truck, please tell me. Thanks in advance man!
Sorry, but you posted on a holiday weekend and I spent a great deal of it with my son fishing.... family first.
I'm catching up now.
Yes, we can program a VLWx chip. There are a ton of parts available for it, from mild bolt-ons to pricey additions. Check out the 4.2L forum section, we've got some guys there that have done quite a few surprising things with the 4.2L.
Ford computers are adaptive so its not absolutely required to unhook the battery. Given enough miles and key cycles it will learn. However, resetting the battary usually accomplishes it a lot quicker, within the 1st 100 miles.
Items such as as K&N filters and intakes, cold air systems, underdrive pulleys and exhausts do not affect programming and do not require custom programming.
Superchargers, aftermarket intercoolers, headers, larger Mass Air-Flow sensors, nitrous oxide, performance cams, performance heads, boost underdrive pulleys (for Superchargers), larger fuel injectors and higher than stock fuel pressure require custom programming in order to supply the correct air/fuel ratios and ignition timing. Also, axle size and/or tire size changes require custom programming only if you want us to recalibrate the shift points/speedometer for these changes.
