more wierd problems...
This on top of the need to rebuild the transmission, and that wierd vibration problem....
Book on this van is 2100, even with the high milage... The transmission alone will be around 1400 to have it rebuilt... then figure in front end repairs, what ever is causing that vibration, and just everything else that is now all of a sudden wearing out... it isn't worth fixing...
Of course then again, we can't afford these repairs, much less buying new car, so it looks like we're gonna just have to run it to the ground and then walk.... sad, hell yeah, but what else am I supposed to do??? When your dads company cuts his pay by 34% and money runs out, of course that's when the car starts falling apart, and all kinds of stuff around the house breaks... it's just one thing after another....
anybody got and comments about my previous two posts about the vibration problem????? I really have to do something about it... money or no money... maybe the damn car will just spontaniously combust, or some idiot will get drunk and hit it, so I can get a present from my insurance co.....
sorry, feeling a little down today..... our best car is starting to die and there is no money to repair it or replace it... yeah I'm a little down today......

I rebuilt two A4LDs for less that $300.00 each.
Bought the parts at www.bulkparts.com
Went to my local NAPA Auto Parts stor and bought a ATSG Forld A4LD techtran manual.
As far as the vibration crawl under the van and grab ahold of the driveshaft behind the transmission. Give it a good shake and at the same time twist it. if any movement replace the u-joints at each end of the shaft.
Check for a transmission oil cooler. It can reduce transmission problems alot.
Describe your vibration too..
The vibration has noting to do with the rear end or the u-joints, as it happens both in park and neutral, sitting still. It is most noticable when not moving. There is a very low pitched resonant sound that is herd throughout the van, but cannot be herd outside it. A vibration can be felt in the seats as well as in the floorboard at idle, and under hard acceleration.... I do not suspect the transmission for this. Rather, I am suspecting motor mounts as well as possibly the transmission mount. with 222k miles on the original motor mounts they are probably shot.
Under observation the engine seems to move side to side in excess while idleing in park. Which is another reason I am suspecting the motor mounts. The resonant sound does not change when in gear, or neutral/park... nor does it change when the steering wheel is turned.
I think, as long as it is just motor mounts causing the problem I can hold off a while on fixing it right? it sure is annoying, but really don't have money to put it in the shop to have the motor mounts changed. with my history of back problems I try not to
climb under the van any more than needed, and sure don't do heavy lifting under there...
Hope that info helps.

Jack it up slowly and watch the mounts on both sides. If one is bad the motor should tip to one side and the bad mount will separate into two pieces. one-half bolted to the motor the other half bolted to the motor.
If it is a bad mount I wouldn't be driving it because you motor could twist and drop. Doing alot of damage under the hood.
