Thanks for the offer Jerry, but I'm more than happy with the setup I have now - everything works great with the power locks and alarm.
I'm looking at locking steering columns to swap in, if i do it I'll have it keyed to the door locks, but I'm not sure I'll find something I like that will work with the straight-axle steering arrangement. If not I'll look for a 68-69 mustang ignition switch that I can re-key to match the doors.
Orange'63 may take you up on your offer... especially if they are in better shape than his originals.
My 64 came to me with one well worn key. It works in the ignition AND both door locks...... Are you guys saying that your ignition key won't open the doors????
I had similiar problems with my truck. The PO had changed out the ignition and "misplaced" the key since he never locked his doors. When I had the key made for the door locks I pulled the ignition and had it keyed to match the doors.
Just an update on this thread... I ended up buying a set of matching door locks that were supposed to be for an 86 ford pickup. They were on sale for $10 a set. They are quite a bit larger than the original locks, but once in, no problems. They came with a gasket which allowed me to trace the shape of the lock onto the door with a pencil, then file the hole to the required new size. The whole project took about 30 minutes to complete.
Really the only difference is the size of the lock cylinder itself. It's about an eigth of an inch larger all the way around. The advantage I think in these newer locks is the bigger double sided key which just has a better feel to it than the miniature keys that came with these trucks.
