2017 6.7l engine differences

Hey can anybody tell me what's different about the 2017 6.7l engine vs the 2016? I did some looking but I can't find what they changed on it. I know they rearranged some stuff under the hood a bit but was there any mechanical changes? Probably some programming for sure. Anybody have a link to a website that explains any changes?

Thanks!

There is a thread here someplace that answers all your thoughts. Larger injectors, Larger Turbo, Larger drive train to include a larger transfer case. Bigger brakes.... Quite a bit actually. Whole new truck design.

Thanks! I guess I will have to get better using the search function as I didn't find it earlier.

What exactly is different from the 6R140 in the 2016 and the 6R140 is the 2017?
The engine is essentially a carryover with some tuning and injector differences. When Ford released the gen II 6.7 in 2015 they made a long list of changes that was widely published.
But for the 2017 all we hear is crickets regarding changes.

My guess is it's 100% programming. How else could you raise the torque numbers without effecting the HP? Makes no sense.

They problably just upped the torque limiter in programming. We all know 6.7s can make a lot more HP and TQ then the factory sends them out with.

I keep waiting for an announcement from Ford that the new 2017 has more HP and TQ. Kinda like they did when the 2011s first rolled out. There has to be some surprise coming, I bet they are still waiting for GM and Dodge to finalize or lock in their new numbers first.

The larger turbo, injectors and HPFP were all introduced in the 2015 Gen 2 6.7

There are very small differences between a 2016 and 2017 engine.

2017 turbo has a internal oil drain now (otherwise same specs as 2015-2016 turbos)

New turbo pedestal

2017 has different rods to accommodate larger wrist pins

New water pump

New oil cooler

New engine mounts

I thought a read somewhere that plumbing was re-routed on top of motor to make it more accessible for maintenance/repair. Anyone have both models to compare?

"Under the hood, the updated turbo-diesel V8 achieves its knockout torque punch with some subtle upgrades. The bump comes from a new turbocharger and downpipe with a lower-restriction exhaust, combined with new fuel injectors (more fuel flow) and increased airflow. The increased torque required larger drivetrain components like a new transfer case on four-wheel-drive models, larger drive shafts with higher-capacity U-joints as well axles with thicker axle shafts and bigger ring gears."

I'm not totally sure that this article's info is true. For example, there are diesel models still using the old Sterling 10.5 axle just fine, in spite of the new engine ratings.

I'm very curious what the actual "truth" is as well. The driveshafts and u-joints are different, as is the transfer case. That much I can see. The transmission cooler is different, as well as being located in a different spot. It seems I have read the turbo is once again new for this year (different than 2015 redesign).

Yeah, Kubota...thanks for reposting. I started both those threads and I'm still questioning what is really "new." Yes, different intake, a few things here and there...but what I'm curious about is the "guts." For example, was the CP4 pump revised any further from the 2015 revision? Is the turbo actually different? Are the injectors actually different? Any changes to the block, pistons, con rods, crank, pushrods, valves, heads, cooling system, etc? That's what I'm really after.
