I own an 1982 f250 4x4, I need the speedometer DRIVE gear that goes in the transfer case.
Ford doesn't make a replacement, any and all help with be appreciated. How do you know this, since there are THREE possible gears?*
There are THREE possible DRIVE gears for your truck. What is the rear axle ratio, which trans does it have?
If a 4 speed, is it a Warner or New Process? If not sure, post the TRANS code printed on the Certification Label, glued to the left door face below the latch.
*You went to a Ford dealer and the second you told the parts cluck what year your truck was, he said OBSOLETE!
Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Most parts guys do not want to mess with trucks this old, so they just "shine you on."
Let's make sure what is really needed. Both the drive gear and the driven gear are in the transfer case, as explained here: Speedometer Gears - ???Gary's Garagemahal.
Gary's Bullnose Bible is misleading to me .... I'm wanting to buy a 18 tooth speedometer driven gear for my 1984 F250 6.9l 4x4. Since the gear enters the Transfer case, to meet the drive gear of the transfer case(BW 1345) I look for a speedo driven gear by looking at transfer case parts? Gary's doesn't show my truck 1984 f250 3.54 gears 4wd with a T-19 manual tranny(tranny shouldn't matter? right?) Everywhere else doesn't show for transfer case, shows for tranny and if it does it shows , at least for the drive gear, the one for the Ford Bronco or Bronco II. The drive gear with the smaller Dia. sleeve that fits inside the drive gear! Somebody help me PLEASE! With SUGAR ON TOP! Some part #'s or a pic of what direction the splines turn to (left or right)? This is madness!

Alltime, are you a member over on Gary's site?
Some of use are members on both so I would become a member there also.
I know they have a certain way you need to become a member but its not hard.
It could be that Gary does not have the needed information on his site yet and why you may not be able to find it.
Then you may need a decoder ring to read the info, at least I do at times.
I know he helped me to figure what drive gear I needed for the T18 transmission, 4x2 truck, and to get the speedo to read on the money.

One thing I will tell you. The heavy duty f250 and 350's and the f150's and Bronco's all used the same transfer cases. Back in these years there was the new process and the borg warner. If that helps any.
