Ham Antenna install

So getting ready to install my Ham radio and wondered where other people installed their antenna and where did you enter the cab.

My antenna will be mounted on a head rack and looking to go into the back of the cab. Just wondered where others may of gone into the cab to run the antenna wire.

I've been thinking of installing mine on the drivers fender/hood area and enter from the drivers firewall. But I've also thought about a stake mount on the bed. I've still not decided on where to mount the head unit of the radio yet (FT-7900). Tuning in for others solutions!

Absolutely ridiculously expensive, but I ordered one to try anyway. I will mount a cell booster antenna on it. Third Brake Light Antenna Mount

I actually installed mine in the right had rear corner of my shell. Inside the shell, seems to work ok, I haven't tried the radio on digital yet, out Dstar repeater is down right now. the radio head I just throw on the usb drawer cover for now. I can also run my radio from my phone via bluetooth, nut it is a little harder. I entered the cab with both the power and antenna cable under the front floor board, I have grommets with the wires for the steps there, just cut a slit in the grommet and shoved he wires through. Dont think the brake light mount above will work for those of us that have a topper.

Thanks,
I won't have it until April unfortunately. I live in Canada and they wanted $100 to ship it to Canada. I had it shipped to a US address and will be picking it up at the end of the month. But I will post some pics and a review!

Well after a couple of months of scratching my (and staying out of the cold weather) I found a great place to come through the cab for my antenna cable.

I slid the driver seat all the way back and there is a split in the carpet and when you look down there is a small oblong hole in the bottom of the cab right under the driver seat. I ran my antenna cable through that hole after inlarging it.

In my Ram that I am trading in, I have my antenna on a driver side hood/fender mount, subscribing to this thread to see solutions for the new truck on order.

Id like to see on a truck as well. It looks as though the antenna mount is not centered in the 3rd brake light which would drive me crazy.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Sarge

My old truck I had a hood clamp mount on the drivers side and ran the antenna coax through the firewall. Due to the angle I had to heat up the mount and bend it to get the antenna straight. Play to bend it again to fit the new truck and do the same with it.

Well with all the flooding around here recently I pulled the truck in and got my old Icom 2000 installed on the pedestal on the floor in front of the dash (one of the reasons I bought a truck without the full center console) As stated above I bent the lip mount I had on my old truck back to fit the flat hood on this one and got my Larsen LM150 mounted on the front drivers side corner of the hood.

Great info here. I'm a tech and also GMRS license holder, so I understand the desire to transmit on frequencies where some radios shouldn't transmit. It's so stupid that GMRS is restricted to FCC approved antennas only. I wish it were more like amateur where you were forced to learn a bit more and stay within certain parameters. I found it rather ridiculous that I didn't learn about callsign requirements on GMRS until I was studying for my amateur, even though I now understand it was my responsibility to know those regs. Glad I have my tech now, and while I really don't often talk to people, it's nice to have for hitting repeaters in an emergency when we are outside of cell coverage while camping. KOKGG
