My grandfather recently bought an 02 F150 2WD with only 90K miles. The truck has no issues but my grandfather likes things to be as reliable as possible. So, what are the best reasonably priced reliability upgrades for an 02 with the 4.6 triton? Also, what are some upgrades to increase fuel economy on these motors? I personally don't know much about triton motors, I'm into the older trucks, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Really they don't require a whole lot , in the way of "upgrades". Just general maintenance with oem parts will serve Grandfather well.
If past maintenance history is unknown...
start with a fresh set spark plugs, and filters ( oil, air, fuel and transmission) , flush all fluids and start fresh, ( engine, transmission, power steering fluid, brakes,& rear end gear oil). With the rear end, I'd go with synthetic gear oil and you need to know if it has open differential or limited slip ( see door tag under "axle code") if it has a Limited Slip (LS) then you'll probably need a friction modifier added as well. If he is really curious have a compression test done while changing out the spark plugs. Also, a fresh PCV installed and check for leaks in vacuum line system can really rob performance and economy. Main culprit for vacuum leaks is a elbow going into the intake on firewall side.
Then last but not least, check out the brakes and wheel bearings.
Now if ole granddad has a hanker'n for more power and likes "showing up these young'ns" . There is a host of stuff to add... turbos or superchargers, cams, headers all of which won't help without a proper tune.
Mason i'm a bit curious why anyone this day and age thinks there are proven ways to influence something that has not happened yet besides, normal maintenance?
Attempting such efforts cost additional money with no guarantees.
The vehicle has built in computer self diagnostics for 99% of it's operating system.
The rest is just common sense for tires, brakes, exhaust and all normal repair and replacements..
Replacement parts are available at different levels of quality.
Who is going to control that area of repair and maintenance?
I have 262,000 plus miles and have had to repair as it needed to get this far with the truck the same as everyone else.
I have had to service nearly every area from 4x4 to rusted rear spring shakles, to front wheel bearing packs and lower ball joints.
It's just that your question seems not to fit reality.
I hope you don't take this as to kurt but it's the way it is for everyone.
Good luck.
