At the risk of being called "Captain Obvious".....
I always look for the bulb number after the dash is tore out or I get the replacement bulb from the parts man at the local Ford dealer first. Yes, it will be more expensive, but so is running around from parts store to parts store only to find out that they don't have one in stock.
Ford Part number F87Z 13B765DA, Mazda part number ZZPO-55-280 ( Ford part as well). It is bulb and socket (only way it is sold that am aware of thru dealer). Price is listed at $19.92 When you remove switch can see the slotted socket. Turn with a small flat blade screwdriver to remove from switch. Because the light is always on if vehicle is running they don't last long at all. I read on another site that the actual bulb is a Sylvania number 2721 miniature bulb. You could possibly solder leads to the 2721 and fix it that way. The original bulb has leads that attach it to socket. Have also read that others had done a LED conversion to replace it but can't find on the web at the moment.
